Quick Facts About Ebola Main Homeopathic Remedies to Consider for Ebola
Chart About Ebola Remedy Differentials

Quick Facts About Ebola
  • Incubation period is anywhere from as short as 2 days, to a more typical 8 - 10 day period.
  • However, infections have been known to arise 3 weeks after exposure; if someone is not symptomatic in 21 days, it is not likely that they will become symptomatic.
Ebola (EVD) Symptoms (See also chart of Ebola Remedy Differentials below)
  • The symptoms that arise with early EVD are typical to viral infections such as influenza.
  • Complaints of chills, fever higher than 101.5F or 38.6C and significant fatigue and tiredness, which commonly takes the person to bed.
  • There are skin complaints such as flat or slightly raised rash on the face, trunk and arms.
  • After this initial influenza like illness, on day 5-7, more GI and musculoskeletal symptoms develop. Here are the muscle aches, joint pain and severe headache.
  • GI complaints, such as loss of appetite, abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting, severe watery diarrhea ensue.
  • Respiratory complaints, such as sore throat, difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath and chest pain are often present.

What is Ebola Virus?
Ebola is spread by contact with bodily fluids such as blood, vomit, diarrhea, saliva. It also seems to be transmitted by eating animals which carry the virus as a reservoir; fruit bats are implicated in the current West Africa epidemic of 2014, although monkeys, gorillas, and some other animals can be carriers. Objects coming in contact with such fluids such as utensils, cooking materials, cups, glasses, needles, etc. can carry the virus from an infected person. This is why health workers wear garments to ward off any splattering, and gloves to create a barrier for physical contact.

Bed rest is absolutely necessary.
Ebola sufferers are so wiped out that they can barely even sit up in bed.
Isolation and quarantine are crucial for personal care and to prevent spread to family members and community.

  • Ebola a member of the filovirus family, a hemorrhagic fever, is very much in the news these days with reports of its spread and over 800 deaths in Africa with concerns that this filovirus may travel globally. While this viral disease may seem far away at present, with the ease of travel, it would not be difficult for the Ebola virus to spread. As homeopathic nurses we should be aware of how to recognize and handle the signs and symptoms during any possible epidemic.

  • In the case of the spread of the Ebola filovirus, no conventional type of treatment or vaccine is available. Fortunately, homeopathy's history is greatly renown for its healing ability in such epidemics. Such as the great Spanish Flu epidemic, which was an Ebola hemorrhagic fever, which is often fatal, sometimes within days. Symptoms include severe fever accompanied by muscle pain, weakness, vomiting and diarrhea, and in severe cases, unstoppable bleeding ending in shutdown of vital organs.

  • Exposure to the virus usually comes through direct contact with the blood or secretions of an infected person or animal. The disease may be transmitted to another through sexual contact up to two months after clinical recovery. In homeopathy, remedies are often chosen based on the symptom picture, thus the remedies most often used for Ebola will be most likely the same as for other disease symptoms that have mirrored the past for stopping filovirses symptoms.

  • The comforting news is that there are homeopathic remedies that mirror the filovirus symptoms and one of the five major remedies, Crotalus horridus, is at a 95% match and saved 80% of the people during the Spanish flu pandemic.

  • With a mere handful of homeopathic remedies the homeopathic medical community staunchly stuck by their confidence in their science, and were able to vanquish the most dreadful influenza epidemic to ever sweep the world in human memory. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that, should the world face another flu pandemic, like the one in 1918, modern homeopathic medicine can, and will do so again.

Special regards to the following doctors for coming up with the similars of the remedies listed below:

Dr. Gail Derin who studied the symptoms of Ebola Zaire, the most deadly of the three that can infect human beings. Dr. Vickie Menear, M.D. and homeopath, who found that the remedy that most closely fit the symptoms of the 1914 "flu" virus, Crolatus horridus also fits the Ebola virus nearly 95% symptom-wise.

Main Homeopathic Remedies to Consider for Hemorrhagic Ebola

  • Crotalus horridus
Difficulty in swallowing due to spasms and constriction in the throat. Tongue can be fiery red, smooth and polished (compare with Pyrogen) and very swollen. In diarrhea the stools are black, thin and offensive.  Emesis looks like coffee grounds. Dark, purple colored blood that will not coagulate, bleeding from any part of the body including the eyes, gums, nose and the sweat. Offensive discharges. Edema with purplish, mottled skin, late in the disease the person may turn yellow.  Photophobia.  Sepsis. Blood boils. Severe prostration, the pulse may be scarcely felt. This remedy has an affinity with the right side. Cannot lie on the right side or back without vomiting. Affinity to jaundice.

  • Bothrops Lanceolatus (Prophlyatic)
For retinal hemorrhage and from all orfices, pulmonary embolus, worse on right side, black vomit, cold sweat, trembling, can’t talk, photophobia sunlight, one side paralysis. Nervous trembling, difficulty articulating speech, sluggishness, swollen, puffy face and black vomiting.  There is thrombosis causing neurological phenomena like strokes and bleeding from all orifices. Blindness, especially in daytime.  Fever with shivering followed by very profuse cold sweat.  This remedy has an affinity with the right side.

  • Camphor, Carbo Vegetabilis and China officinalis
Are considered "corpse reviving" remedies. China is particularly well known for its loss of body fluids.

  • Echis Carinatus
The remedy may prove to be an excellent match for the presentation of hemorrhagic ebola. The proving brought out a state of anxiety followed by fear of impending, especially incurable disease.

  • Echinacea angustifolia
When there is a septic state developing, blood poisoning, fetid smelling discharges and enlarged lymph nodes. Profound prostration, very weak and tired. Severe headache. The brain seems too large. White coating of the tongue with red edges, bed sores. Blood follows the stool.

  • Lachesis mutus
Look for delirium with trembling and confusion. The person may talk too much. Tongue dry, black and trembling. Lots of profuse hemorrhaging from any where in the body, the blood is dark and does not easily clot, great sensitivity to touch, often tight clothing cannot be tolerated especially around the neck, the person feels better for heat and worse on the left side. Disease begins on the left side then goes to the right side. Perspiration is cold and stains yellow, and it may be bloody.

  • Phosphorous
For hemorrhage where there is bright red gushing blood from any where in the body and profuse watery diarrhea. Longing for cold food and drinks but as soon as water becomes warm in the stomach it is thrown up. Perspiration has the odor of sulphur. Aggravation in the evening before midnight and lying on the left or painful side. People in a Phos state tend to have a lot of anxiety and fear especially at night.

  • Pyrogenium
Use when the well chosen homeopathic remedy fails to improve symptoms. Great restlessness, the bed feels hard and the person feels bruised and sore. The stool is large and black and carrion like and the pulse is abnormally rapid and out of proportion to the temperature.

  • Mercurius corrosivus
Uhis remedy is indicated for dysentery and persistent tenesmus of the rectum that is not better by passing stool. The stool is bloody, slimy and offensive. Tenesmus of the bladder, burning, hot urine, bloody or brown. Scanty or suppressed urine. Copious bleeding, better when lying on the back with the knees bent up, delirium, headache with burning cheeks, photophobia, black swollen lip, metallic, bitter or salt taste in the mouth.

  • Terebinthiniae oleum
Affinity to bleeding mucous surfaces and it has a particular affinity to inflammation of the kidneys following acute disease with dark, passive, fetid hemorrhage. The urine may be scanty and suppressed and smell of violets, constant tenesmus. The tongue may be dry, red sore, burning in the tip, with prominent papillae. The breath is cold and foul. In fever, heat with violent thirst with cold, clammy sweat. Choking sensation in the throat. Nausea and vomiting. Difficult breathing and bloody expectoration from the lungs.

  • Secale cornutum
For the collapsed state. The face is pale, pinched and sunken. Diarrhea is profuse, watery, putrid and brown. It is discharged with great force, exhausting, painless and involuntary. The person may crave acids and lemonade despite the diarrhea. Urine may be pale, watery or bloody or it may be suppressed. Thin, slow, painless, dark oozing of blood with offensive, putrid odor. Tingling in the limbs. White cold extremities, painful, as in Raynaud’s phenomenon.  The person wants to be uncovered although the skin feels very cold to touch, (compare with Camphor) they feel worse from heat and from any motion.

  • Calendula Tincture Wash:
To a 2 quart bowel of water add 1 dropper of calendula tincture.  This may be used as a soak, wash or poultice for inflamed sores that are not healing.  This creates an aseptic field and can be helpful with open sores that develop with Rbola virus.  Can also clean skin. Can use as a spray.

  • Potency of remedy:
This depends on the severity of symptoms and the strength of the vital force.  Consider a 200C potency to start if the person was
    healthy before the outbreak.

Very beginning stages - difficult to distinguish between flu symptoms, malaria, some other malady or the Ebola virus.
