The correct homeopathic remedy will help resolve mononucleosis in 24 - 48 hours.

Infectious mononucleosis is known as "the kissing disease" or "mono". It is caused by the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV). Mononucleosis is a continuation of viral infection caused by Epstein Barr virus after 2 to 3 weeks.  It is characterized by a sore throat, fever, malaise and weakness. The virus is a member of the Herpes virus family and is mainly transferred from one person to the other through saliva.  This means that you  can contract this disease if you kiss someone who has already been infected.  The throat pain is often quite severe and may be confused with strep throat.  On physical examination, the doctor may find an enlarged liver and/or spleen. Heart and central nervous system involvement are rare. Mononucleosis in adults will not be a serious as they will have built up antibodies and immunity over their lifetime typically. It’s estimated that 95% of adults in their 30's and 40's have antibodies to the virus. Mononucleosis is bigger issue in children and teenagers who have not built up immunity.

Symptoms of Mononucleosis

  • Symptoms include fatigue, fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, headache, skin rash and swelling of the spleen.

  • If symptoms such as throat pain persist after 2 to 3 weeks, further blood examination is done.

  • One of the main signs of mono is a sore throat that may last for 1 to 4 weeks.

  • Other symptoms include swollen glands in the neck and armpits.

  • Prolonged symptoms of mononucleosis like fever, fatigue and weakness is sometimes diagnosed or confused with chronic fatigue syndrome.

  • There may be fever, fatigue and weakness along with other symptoms.

  • Few cases of mono may result in prolonged chronic throat pain secondary to pharyngitis.

  • Mononucleosis can become serious in those with a suppress autoimmune system. They may develop enlarged spleen and liver with generalized lymph node swelling.

Tests for Mononucleosis

  • Mono Blood Test: Blood tests will usually reveal a normal to moderately elevated white cell count, an increased number of lymphocytes (white blood cell that helps the body fight viral infections) with more than 10% of them being atypical and positive “mono spot” results.

  • Mono "spot test" checks for certain antibodies to the Epstein-Barr virus and confirms mononucleosis.

  • The test will be positive about 2 to 9 weeks after a person gets infected.

  • After infection, the Epstein-Barr virus remains dormant in a few cells in the throat or blood for the rest of the person’s life.

  • It can be reactivated at different times without symptoms of illness. It is frequently found in the saliva of healthy people.

  • Symptoms caused by mono can last for 4 weeks or more. There is no specific conventional treatment for mononucleosis.

  • Transmission of the virus is almost impossible to prevent.
